Whirlygig Quilt does a road Trip to Deny
Last weekend I made the journey out West on long straight roads, drove for hours, to find this gorgeous patchwork shop called Deniliquin Heritage Fabrics, run by the lovely Joy and Jill. They had got together a room full of ladies willing to sew all weekend. We worked on the Whirlygig quilt-as-you-go quilt first, and then I introduced them to hexagons on the second day (their lives will never be the same again). I had a great weekend with them all, lots of laughs and some serious sewing as well, with one lady in particular looking at fabric in a whole new light and couldn’t stop looking at fabric on Sunday (you know who you are so I won’t mention any names in public).
This is the group photo taken on Sunday, Karen was missing with prior engagements, with Joy taking the photo.
This is Joy and Gillian with me in the shop, they are the lovely owners of Heritage Fabrics and looked after me very well. Joy giving me the guided cross-country evening tour of Deny after tea. It is a great spot on the river with the kangaroos on the golf course.
Di and Audrey here with samples of Whirlygig and hexagons. How are you going with the fussy cutting Di?
Janine here at the machine, the quiet achiever of the group, you can see some of the gorgeous fabrics in the background.
Sorry about the bad lighting, here is Sue having fun with the hexagons.
Rona and Helen busy at work in the corner, great whirlgigs girls.
Jill holding up her samples, very pretty and happy with the weekend of sewing she did.
Janine, with Joy at the front, there was fabric everywhere out in the shop, I don’t want the clean-up job on Monday.
And Janet, after making her sample blocks on Saturday, did lots of cutting for homework and produced lots of sewing over the weekend.
Thanks ladies for a great weekend, I thoroughly enjoyed it and I look forward to seeing photos of the work you complete – yes photos ladies, photos!
Till next time and happy Easter to all,
Janelle
Looks like a fun time was had by all! Pity you missed the Ute Muster.
Hi Chris, yes it was fun and will have to take the family with if it was all on the same weekend.
