LUCY BOSTON BLOCKS PART 2
It has been a little while between chats, there has been alot happening, but I have been busy putting together a few more Lucy Boston blocks when I get a chance to make it into the sewing room without interruptions, they take awhile sometimes, getting the fabrics and colours right. Especially when I like to fussy cut nearly every fabric I use, and seeing the designs work within the block is very rewarding worth the effort I think.
The one above is using some of the new Civil War Melodies range,
So is this red and blue one
Just had to do a purple one…
A bright blue one, I was very surprised at how this won turned out.
An old fashioned one,
These two were made using the same fabrics,
Quite a different effect
And so are these two – in the middle only
Now all I have to do is sew them together and get the cream outside ones done, lots of hand sewing for these long winter day and nights that are coming up. My night class ladies have been busy making them too, so hopefully they will let me snap away next time we meet and I can show you some more.
Anyway, must get back to the chores, at least I don’t have to worry about the garden anymore, just loved that gorgeous rain we had yesterday, no more dust in the air and the crops will hopefully jump out of the ground now.
Till we talk again, take care and happy stitching.
Janelle.
Hi Janelle, I love your very first block on this post. I’ve been searching for the green-red stripe fabric in it, though — can you tell me what it is? Who designed it? Is it a Civil War print? I’d love to get my hands on some of it. Your “fussy-cutting” is amazing! Thanks so much.
Hi Joyce, the green stripe is quite an old piece I had from a reproduction bundle, and I don’t have any left as I used it all in the block. I do have a lot of Judie Rothermel fabrics so it could be from one of her old ranges. Sorry I can’t be of more help, but thankyou for your comments, I am delighted that you like what you see and that you came to visit me on my blog.
Hip hip hooray !!! I found a shop that is closing due to retirement. Everything was 35% off. They actually had some on the bolt!! I gasped when I saw this, as I LOVE what you did with it. I have spent hours searching online and was able to identify it as Judie Rothermel for Marcus and it is called Colonial Christmas. You have created some pretty amazing blocks, How many have you done now? I hope that you will continue to post photos as you progress. Happy sewing!
Hi Joyce, thankyou for your lovely message, and it feels great that others are inspired and like what I do. I have done 29 blocks so far – so just on half way, and I hope to do another post with some more very soon. I am a great user and buyer of Judie Rothermel fabrics, they just work so well in the things that I like to do. Happy sewing to you too.
