Patchwork and Quilting
I have had fabrics, wool, threads and a sewing machine close by for most of my life. Being on a farm, it was part of our growing up that the girls where taught to sew and knit, create clothing and be confident with a needle and thread. I loved it then and still love it now. Many years later, I got into making quilts, and now quilting has become part of my life, and with that came a desire to create my own thing. Hence Country Matters began, designing quilts and helping others to make quilts and creations of their own as well.
Country Matters is about patchwork and quilting in the tradition of reproduction/country colours and the old world feel of florals and small prints, a style that I use in most designs.. Patterns for quilts of all sizes with medallion styles, quilt-as-you-go designs, hexagons and flying geese a favourite of mine used throughout. Mostly machine pieced quilts, with English paper piecing applique a feature too on some designs. English paper piecing has become an addiction of mine, and in several designs I have used hexagons and various other shapes to use as applique. I have been designing from home and teaching in my local area for the past several years, to fit in around my rural base and family demands.
